It was a shorter drive, and please don’t hurt me for the vertical video it was the easiest way to hold the phone and the boy’s hand at the same time.

Nice, before I even saw it I recognized the whistle as NW 611. It’s amazing to see it back and alive again.

Now that they have finished restoring it they are doing short excursions with it to raise money for the museum. That said the excursion tickets are not cheap ($100 to $350 a ticket) so we just staked out a crossing in a small town along the route.

Ya but I’ll tell ya there is something special being pulled by any steam locomotive. I did the Durango and Silverton RR trip and it was awesome. I used to go to Kirkwood and downtown STL when 3985 and 844 would roll through STL but it’s been a while and they both are undergoing some major work right now.
This pic was back in 2010 I was 6'2" in this pic for some scale I also chased 844 in 2011
My voice over in the second one is so stupid as well.

Grew up along the UP mainline east of Cheyenne, so had plenty of opportunities to hear/see those rigs howl by on their way to events.

Very cool! My family spent a 20 degree afternoon walking around the museum. We had flown into Roanoke on a ski trip to Wintergreen, and it was a pleasant way to start the trip. 611 wasn't around at the time, and I've made a promise to head back one day and see it.

Nice! I got lucky and spotted it Thursday while rolling through Charlottesville. Lucky me I have a parking lot view that also has a good view of the neighboring train tracks. Heard it before I saw it for sure, not steaming like this though. Great video.
